About iCareX

iCareX..Do You Care?

iCareX is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded with the belief in challenging the status quo to solve healthcare disparity by cultivating thinkers, building leaders, and thinking innovatively.

Our first innovation program – Project Clinic A – will be launched with the mission to serve as the “X factor” to help coordinate care for the underserved population at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. Our goal is to enhance the value and improve the efficiency of care by allowing healthcare providers to operate at their highest capabilities. Through Project Clinic A, we strive to provide a competitive hands-on learning opportunity for volunteers like yourself who are interested in the healthcare field and to make your experience a valuable asset towards your career goals. Once you have been accepted into the program, you will be working directly with resdents/faculties assigned to you in the primary care clinic – Clinic A. You will be assigned various care coordination tasks including

Here at iCareX, we seek members who care deeply in improving the lives of others, while upholding the common values of integrity, kindness, and compassion. We have developed a unique training curriculum to cultivate thinkers and leverage each of our members’ talents to collectively raise our skills in teamwork, leadership, communication, global awareness, and cultural competency.

Vivianne Chang

Project Developer & Logistics Chair

  • —Interests in regard to the iCareX Project:

    • My main interest is in learning more about primary care, specifically in regard to ensuring consistency and continuity of healthcare through care coordination. Through this project I hope to gain a better understanding of how good medicine should be practiced and to connect with patients where they are at in their lives. Aside from this, I am also interested in learning about how to help patients with chronic conditions improve their quality of life over time.

  • How you can help / what skills or talents you think you can contribute:

    • I have experience with large-scale event and organizational planning, assisting the workflow for providers at community health events, and working with patient medical information through electronic health records.  I would be able to contribute to the concept development of the program, provide logistical support as needed, and volunteer several times a month.

Steven Hadawar

Finance Chair

  • —Interests in regard to the iCareX Project:

    • I am interested in applying changes to the primary care clinic A through iCareX. Implementing changes at Olive View and evaluating the Effect it will have on the patients wait time will be a manifestation of the ideas proposed for the research paper Tony, Anna, and I have been working on.

  • How you can help / what skills or talents you think you can contribute:

    • I currently work for a non-profit organization. If our club in the future turns into a non-profit organization, I could probably help with that transition. Tony mentioned we might need shirts - I am in contact with someone that has designed shirts for another club that I am in.

Megha Pokhriyal

Education Chair

  • —Interests in regard to the iCareX Project:

    • I am interested in being able to help patients directly by recording their medications and other information in order to reduce their waiting time at Olive View. I am particularly interested in geriatrics, and I would be interested in especially catering to older patients who take longer to recall all the medications they are taking. Setting up a kiosk for health promotion and preventive care is also something I would be open to having. Overall, I would like to help out in any way I can.

  • How you can help / what skills or talents you think you can contribute:

    • I have experience serving as a volunteer in the patient escort department at the Ronald Reagan hospital, so I am comfortable approaching people and providing assistance to them. I am also willing to devote as much time is needed for this project, and I would love to participate in any possible way.

Anna Shvartsur

Technology Chair

  • —Interests in regard to the iCareX Project:

    • I am interested in seeing the impact volunteer care coordination can make in clinic efficiency and patient care. This program is unique and allows volunteers to be much more involved. I am interested in volunteering and being part of the curriculum.

  • How you can help / what skills or talents you think you can contribute:

    • I worked on a research project with Tony at Clinic A recently, thus I have a feel for the clinic and its potential needs and may be able to come up with ideas on how to address them. I am very interested in pursuing medicine and thus I believe I have the enthusiasm and the innovative spirit to help contribute to this project.

  • How you can help / what skills or talents you think you can contribute:

    • I can help with the phone system by practicing great etiquette in checking up patients on a timely basis. I am proficient in Spanish, posses very close attention to detail, and am willing to empathetically and sympathetically care for patients and ensure their needs are met. I am experienced in interacting with elderly patients due to volunteering at physical therapy clinic over the summer, and I can offer a variety of ideas to contribute to curriculum based on past experiences with other health clinics.
